FALLOW BUCK
Dama dama
Fallow were introduced into New Zealand in 1864. One of the features peculiar to this animal is the palmated antlers, similar to those of a Moose, smaller but opposite in points. The rut for Fallow Deer begins about the 20th of April and continues for approximately two weeks. During this period the bucks get very aggressive and will fight anything on sight, be it animal or bush. This is quite a contrast for bucks as they are generally very timid and wary during the rest of the year.
