Trophy register Hog Deer
Australian Species HOG DEER Axis porcinus Hog Deer were introduced to Victoria from Sri Lanka in several liberations during the latter half of last century and are firmly established in a number of coastal and mainland regions of Victoria, including some offshore islands. The build is low and heavy with legs and face comparatively short. This appearance, together with their characteristic habit of rushing rather than bounding through the grass when disturbed in the manner of a wild pig has earned them the name of Hog Deer.
