Cervus timorensis Indigenous to Java and South East Asia, the Rusa deer were imported from New Caledonia in 1907, and were released into the Galatea foothills near Rotorua. Rusa are extremely timid and wary, making them a very hard trophy to obtain in NZ, however New Caledonia holds the world’s finest trophies these days. Photo caption: Kees Swanink
