Cervus unicolor

Indigenous to India, Ceylon and Asia, Sambar were introduced into New Zealand from Sri Lanka in 1875.  These deer are our second largest, weighing approximately 500lbs+. Noted for their cunning, Sambar are very hard to hunt, making them one of the most sought after trophies.
