WAPITI BULL
Cervus elaphus nelsoni
Wapiti were first introduced from America in 1905. Home of New Zealand’s Wapiti is the magnificent Fiordland National Park. Occupying about one-sixth of the Park’s 3 million acres, the herd lived in some of the most awesome country in New Zealand. The Wapiti thrived in this environment and this is borne out by the world class trophies that were produced from the area. The best of these trophies exceeded sixty inches in both length and spread. Wapiti are, and always will be, one of New Zealand’s hardest trophies to obtain. Most Wapiti are now hybridised by the more aggressive Red Deer, making a wapiti – type trophy all the harder to find in Fiordland.
