WILD GOAT
Capra hircus
ORIGINS
Domesticated Goats first reached New Zealand in 1773 with Captain Cook. Many undoubtedly escaped or were set free. The original goats were believed to be descended from Bezoar Ibex or Wild Goats of the Middle East, with Angora from Asia Minor and Cashmere from Tibet interbreeding, producing a variety of colour, body types, and horn configurations.
